Cranial Cruciate Ligament

Hi has anyone come across this in they're dogs? We had abi at the vet today as she has been limping on and off for a week or so we thought she had maybe just hurt it running about in the snow but it didnt seem to be getting any better so we got it checked out, vet said he's not 100% sure and has given her anti-inflamatorys and if no better will get her in and do a proper exam!

Hi Ive not had this myself but my friends Great Dane did this while it was running its foot went into a rabbit hole I will ask her what she had to do about it hope abi feels better soon xx

We used to have a Neapolitan Mastiff who had this problem in both of her back legs (each on a separate occasion).

She needed surgery on both occasions to deal with it. The operation she had is known as a TPLO (Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy) which fixed her up perfectly - you'd never have known she'd had a problem once she had healed up.

The operation isn't cheap though: each op cost about £2,500 at the time. Recently I had a phone call from a Saint owner who was trying to find a breeder who knew something about the operation as her vet had told her that her dog should have it and quoted £4,000 for it!

Hannibal had a TPLO procedure on his right hind leg in October.

May I just say, if it's ANY comfort - Han had his op at the beginning of October but by Christmas he was really getting back to normal and now he's really enjoying life again!!!

Thanks guys for the advice its reasuring to know that it can be sorted still not sure if it is that as to me she seems to be getting better as we have not walked her far and she seems to be limping less but my worry is if i start walking her further it might get worse again! Abi went to vets today for xrays etc and she has to be referred to the orthopedic to get the TPLO done my poor baby but at least it can be sorted.

was she having it done straight away lorri?

No cheri waiting for an app with specialist but my vet recommened she get it done as xray clearly showed the prob.

Thanx lora. Lastnight was fine thanx cheri i was up and down but she slept all night her plaster has came off but vet said not to worry just leave it off wound looks good she is still in a lot of pain poor scone but coping well she's learning how to hop lol

That must be painful. I'm glad my dog does not have that condition.
