Getting an EYE JOB?? Empty

As all of us too painfully know, Saints have LOTS of eye lid issues. Droopy eyes, entropion and extropion.... My dogs are no exception. Brutus has exceptionally droopy bottom lids with expose the entire nicotating membrane (3rd eyelid). This membrane has zero pigment and is susceptible to bad things from sun exposure.

I always thought of the doopy eyelid as a cosmetic thing, but today i know better. Brutus had a tumor removed last week that came back as a low grade hemangiosarcoma caused from solar exposure! We dont even live in a sunny area! If I get another saint with droopy eyes, Im getting it an eye job pronto!

What are your thoughts? Would you do the same and knowing someone that has this bizarre issue does it sway you towards the surgery yourselves?

i suppose a start would be looking at the parents eyes and hoping that the puppies follow with good eyes

to us eyes are very important i love nice clean tight eyes- for others size maybe more important or marking!

i would definatly concider having it done if i had a dog that needed it- it would them be unable to show and if its eyes were that bad taken out of breeding but the own dogs health is more important than showing or breeding!

i am not one to say anything about surgery for health or beauty lol

Brutus and Rufus are both rescues so I didnt have the luxury of actually choosing them, seeing their parents, knowing any histories or lineage. I actually got saddled with them because they are litermates and lacked the confidence to be apart when they were first surrendered. I felt an obligation to keep them together so I kept them myself to ensure they would be together always. I have learned so much from them and fully appreciate the importance of reputable breeding. While I wouldnt trade them for the world, I am not under any delusion that they are what a saint should be - it reinforces why the conformation standards are what they are. Things like this bizarre and from what I am reading rare cancer just strengthens my resolve to make sure I do my homework and find the perfect breeder and pups for my next set of saints.

OMG i totally have the bug... lol I have had as many as 6 in my house at one time with rescues. When my labs pass on, they wont be replaced with labs. I am going to stick to Saints from here on out and I will have no less than 2 from here on out... but I expect to have 3 or 4 at a time... I may get into showing but I have a long time to decide on that... My lab Hera, is going to live forever Im afraid just to spite me! lol
