Seizure medication Empty
PostSubject: Seizure medication   Seizure medication Icon_minitimeSat Jul 30, 2011 5:52 pm

When my dog began symptoms of heart failure he also began having seizures. At first we thought it was a symptom caused by the heart problem, but no, it was a separate problem.
My vet prescribed dilantin (fenytoin sodium) 3 x 100mg every 8 hours.
Since then he hasn't had any seizures and has seemed quite happy.
It's an inexpensive medication in generic form so quite affordable.

There is a cd called "through a dogs ear" available on itunes or at www.throughadogsear.com that is a calming cd and one of the people actually claims it helps prevent seizures in her dog. Small price to try it out. I know first hand it works WONDERS for thunderstorm phobia.

What do you do if your dog is having seizures? Do you have first aid for it?
