| There is nothing more important than temperament.
I had always wanted a Saint, but every Saint I met had a poor temperament. Some were horribly timid, afraid of anything that moved or made a sound. The timid Saints wanted nothing to do with strangers, and would do everything (including growling and snapping) to keep away from them. Other Saints were aggressive, not only to other dogs, but to people. I met one such Saint - the owner told me to approach, and when I did the Saint lunged, snapped, growled and cornered me. The owner had to use their own body to shield me from being attacked. I had pretty much given up hope of ever finding a nice Saint... until I visited Norm's breeder. Her Saints were all sweet love bugs, vying for attention, but gentle with one another as well as humans. I am so grateful to have found her, and to be blessed with Norm. I know there will always be at least one Saint in my home and my heart.
Norm's temperament is not the norm (no pun intended) in our area. Our vet has quite a few Saint patients and most have temperament issues of some sort. Can I ask if temperament issues within the breed are an issue in Europe? It is my belief that the movie Beethoven (and it's sequels) resulted in a surge of backyard breeders out to make a dollar, producing anything that looked like a "Beethoven dog" without regard for health or temperament.

Tony,Bud&Bhindi. Thanks Tony... I think Norm is turning into a very handsome boy. Although I miss his cute puppy days, I do love his big meathead. Norm is such a gentle boy it's easy to forget just how strong he is. He had never resisted me until he had x-rays done a few weeks ago. The vet tech decided to flip Norm quite quickly onto his back and he struggled to right himself. I was taken back by his strength (silly, I know), but as soon as I stroked his head and kissed his muzzle, he calmed right down. I am head over heels in love with this breed... I can't imagine life without a Saint in my life.
