Yesterday Freddy was stung by a bumblebee and his eyelid became swollen. We called our vet right before they closed and they got us an appointment today and give him benedryl for the night. An hour later he was becoming very sluggish and his muzzle began to swell a little. His gums were turning a very light pink and was not acting like himself. We decided he needed to go to the emergency vet. They give him a shot of anti-inflammatory and more anti-histamine. This morning he is back to being a happy puppy. Hopefully he learned bees are bad!

when Dakota was a puppy she started digging at a hole in the ground,a few minutes later I noticed her running all over the yard like a nut and realized that hole was a bee's nest in the ground, the poor little thing had them chasing her all over and about 6 of them embedded themselves deep in her fur. My husband picked them all out and she was fine but it was scarey

That would be pretty scary. This was just one big bumblebee.

We too have had the joy of Bee problems...

Initially Sweetpea (5 months) just stuck her face in her water bowl & emerged with a bumble bee attached to her lip.. I gave her a Piriton tablet & the small swelling went down.
3 days later she developed a lump initially the size of a golf ball below her right ear.. which overnight grew to the size of an orange. This was on the same side but not near where she had been stung. Off to the vets where they went to lance it & nothing came out so they took some samples to send off to the lab to rule out anything nasty. It was rock solid & appeared to be attached to her lymph gland area.

Within 48 hours the orange size lump now had grown to the size of a rugby ball & had gone underneath her chin & over her windpipe. She didn't appear to have any problems breathing but was refusing to eat & was extremely lethargic & was still rock solid. By this time I had spoken to several people in the breed to see if anyone had had anything similar & no-one and hysteria levels were almost at optimum!!!!
Lab results weren't back, so the vet was reluctant to do anything until the results had ruled some thinsg out & we had no idea what it was except that it was getting bigger!!

By chance SPea rolled onto her back & I saw one very tiny soft looking patch right under her chin.. Back off to the vet (of course now it was a weekend & we needed on-call lol!!)
Due to the size of the lump they decided to chance lancing the soft area as by then she was starting to go off her legs & looking very unwell. Lancing produced about 250ml of gook & pus & immediately reduced the lump.
The lab results came back as indicating that when she had been stung despite the Piriton some of the toxins from the sting had been absorbed into her salivary glands causing the swelling...
I am quite queasy any way but that has to be the grossest thing I have & still am having to deal with (with still bathing the area)

Sooo.. don't be fooled by an apparently dealt with bee sting!! I knwo some dogs react immediately & severely, SPea wasn't one of those, choosing to wait til I thought the Piriton had done the job!!

Poor dog! Sad You should get some ice pack and apply it to the eye this is to reduce the inflammation. My Saint Bernard was stung before but it never grew that big because of the ice pack.
