Who's heard of it?
I have been told it is some what common in Saints and Newfies. Our Hugo has, what I am fairly certain, is this. So far, I have had vets tell us if it doesn't seem to bother him, don't worry about it. Others that want to do biopsies. Not quite sure what to do, but his nose constantly bleeds.
If you've dealt with it, what has worked, treatment wise, for you?
So far we have done prednisone and a topical steroid with no luck.

on the link, if you look at the first picture that's exactly what our dory had...

we ended up having her nose cauterised, which didn't work, the idea was the scar tissue would form a big deep scar and it wouldn't bleed, to be honest we had little choice as it was pumping blood out too fast, we were covered in it, as was my vet, she was loosing far more blood than normal and the frozen peas hadn't worked at all....

the next step was to freeze the area and that would remove a fair bit of the area... my vet said she wouldn't look fab but we weren't too fussed, as it was so hideous to watch, and so scary to ever leave her, our vet and a specialist who was going to do this, was sure it would cure her . we had one friend visit who actually cried as we pinned her in the kitchen and held frozen peas on her nose as she pumped out blood....dory wasn't in distress too much, it never seemed to bother her as much as it did us.....

Sadly Dory died, not from anything to do with her nose, she had a womb infection.

I most certainly would have tried the freezing option had dory not have died  Crying or Very sad

New day, new vet.
They want to start off with high doses of tetracycline and niacinamide for a few months to see if there's improvement. Apparently this has worked well in the past with other cases. Unfortunately, tetracycline isn't easily available in the US, so I'm having to source it out of Canada.

The situation had turned for the worse. Hugo has been getting treated for an infection related to a biopsy done a month ago. The infection has not gotten better and he began to have a growth coming out of one his nostrils. What we also thought was a part of the infection on the roof of his mouth, has turned out to be a growth. He went in today for blood work and a biopsy (from a much better vet this time). Results will take up to a week. He is being medicated to help ease pain and on stronger antibiotics to help fight the infection. He is also taking a medication that has been known to slow or shrink tumors. We will see, but I fear he does not have much time left with us.
It's a shame, he's not even 3 years old yet.

Results are in, and it is cancer. At not even 3 years old, it's a pretty crappy deal.

I'm so very sorry you have had such terrible news, I lost a saint young and still feel robbed of those extra years now.... However I have many beautiful memories

Go out, cause trouble, chase cats, drive thro bugers and enjoy each other!!!

Sending loads of love

Yep, he's getting spoiled beyond belief. Burger King burgers, steak dinners, ice cream treats, no more leashes, all the cookies he can eat, and a party with all his dog friends on Sunday. We can be sad when all is said and done, but now we're having fun.

After a weekend playing with friends, eating junk food, sleeping in the bed, and being treated like a king, Hugo was put down last night at 5:30 PM. Quite possibly one of the saddest moments of our life.

We sympathise with your loss, 5 is so young to loose your saint.
We had to put both of our Staffies down just before christmas and it was the worst time we have ever experienced.
Just remember all the good times you had together, it helps you get through the pain.
David and Jackie.
